College of Applied Science of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology is located in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, the first city along Ganjiang River, which is also the cradle of Hakka culture, the onetime capital of Chinese Revolution, and one of the famous garden cities all over the country.
In August 2001, the college was set up with the approval of the provincial government of Jiangxi Province, and officially acknowledged as an independent college by national Ministry of Education. It is a regular full-time undergraduate college attached to Jiangxi University of Science and Technology in new mode. Originally, it was named West Point College of Southern Institute of Metallurgy, and was renamed College of Applied Science of Southern Institute of Metallurgy in 2002, and got its present name in 2004.
The birth and growth of the College of Applied Science of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology witnesses the development of independent colleges and is a microcosm of the reform of higher education in China.
